An unexpected turn of events!  Although the Vicomte’s death was unintended and regrettable, as a medical scholar, my thoughts are as follows.

The theory behind the ‘essence transfer’ has been known, but to see someone go through with it!  How the Vicomte found and disposed of his victims is unknown as is the number and frequency over his lifetime.

Ultimately this is one proof of theory which adds in more questions.  If he’d been doing this for 100+ years, how often was it necessary?  Did it become more necessary the longer he pushed his body past its natural expiry date?

And why did the man in the shed survive?  Of course I don’t believe the Vicomte’s claim that this man was able to live so long unaided.  After all, that was the Vicomte’s claim for himself at first!

Ultimately, I feel the Vicomte’s state of mind was a product of his own actions.  After all, while the body can be rebuilt, who knows the toll such a long life takes on the mind.
